Only available to cooperative members. To qualify for membership, user must subscribe to landline or internet service and reside in one of the 10 local districts.

At STRATA, we feel privileged to offer a scholarship program for our local students. These scholarships are intended to provide financial assistance for educational opportunities to individuals with commitments to rural communities, to support those wishing to pursue advanced training in career preparation, and to encourage emphasis for careers in telecommunications or any other field which would enhance rural development in the Uintah Basin.

*Applicants must be immediate family members of a current STRATA Networks member (STRATA Networks membership requires broadband or landline service. “Family members” are sons, daughters and stepchildren, including legal guardianship or an adopted status.). 

High School Seniors

General Scholarships

These scholarships (ten per year) are available for dependents of STRATA Networks members who are graduating from high school. The scholarship is to be used for post high school education such as colleges, universities, technology centers, or other advanced training centers or programs. These are nonrenewable, up to $2,500 per academic year.

Richard Adams High School Senior Renewable

This scholarship was established in 2012 as a memorial scholarship to honor Mr. Richard Adams, a past STRATA Networks employee, who lost his life while doing maintenance work during regular working hours. This scholarship (one per year) is available to graduating high school students who are dependents of STRATA Networks members. The scholarship is to be used for post high school education such as colleges, universities, technology centers, or other advanced training centers or programs. This scholarship is payable up to $10,000 in four equal installments of $2,500 per school year, based on meeting eligibility requirements each school year. Preference will be given to those who meet the following criteria, and are selected by the Scholarship Committee with approval of the Board of Directors.

  • Study communications, technology, or business-related fields.
  • Future plans include returning to the local community.
  • Meet requirements of the STRATA Networks Board Scholarship committee to prequalify for the next year’s scholarship renewal.

Non-Traditional Students

Charles Crozier Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1995 as a memorial scholarship honoring Mr. Charles Crozier, a former president, director, and employee of STRATA Networks. This scholarship will be accepted at local institutions only.

The Charles Crozier Memorial Scholarship is restricted to students who have not attended high school for at least one year at the time of the application deadline, and who are STRATA Networks members or dependents of members enrolling at higher education institutions located in the Uintah Basin, such as UBTECH and USU.

Two nonrenewable scholarships of up to $2,500 per year will be awarded. Scholarships are to be paid in equal installments based on whether the education is on a quarter, semester, or program basis. Each installment is awarded based on the prior quarter, semester, or program being successfully completed

Additional Opportunities

Foundation for Rural Service

Local students whose parents are members of STRATA Networks may also apply for the Foundation for Rural Service Scholarship. The foundation annually awards scholarships to an exceptional group of rural students across the nation for their first year of college or vocational school. All applicants require sponsorship by an NTCA—The Rural Broadband Association member company (STRATA Networks being one of them) to be eligible. The recipients of these scholarships are chosen entirely by the FRS Selection Committee. The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS), in cooperation with NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association, seeks to sustain and enhance the quality of life in America by advancing and understanding of rural issues. Through its various programs and initiatives, FRS strongly supports the continuing education of rural youth.

Eligibility

Each applicant must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be sponsored by a current NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association (Strata Networks) member
  • Be accepted by an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
  • Have at least a C grade average (GPA)
  • Express interest to return to a rural community following graduation
