STRATA Holds 66th Annual Meeting

STRATA hosted its 66th Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 13th at Union High School where an estimated 1,100 people attended. Elections were held for the Randlett, Tabiona, and Vernal districts. The following were elected to serve a three-year term: JoAnn Winn, Randlett District; Max Fabrizio, Tabiona District; and Kelly Dastrup, Vernal District. 

It was reported by Secretary/Treasurer Ashley Shiner that STRATA continues to be a profitable company, while using a significant amount of their profits to reinvest back in to the company and the community. In 2018, STRATA invested over 24 million dollars in network assets to improve its services and donated nearly $120,000 back to its communities through donations, Shiner reported. 

Board President Kent Peatross further emphasized the value that the Cooperative places on community support and recognized the 2019 scholarship recipients and the students who STRATA sponsored to attend the Michael F. Peterson Youth Leadership Challenge and the Foundation for Rural Services (FRS) Youth Tour to Washington, DC.  

President Peatross touched on the benefits that STRATA’s subsidiary companies bring & the extents of which they operate, stating that RINA Wireless and Spectra, both subsidiaries of STRATA Networks, are helping to serve businesses located well beyond the boundaries of the Basin, and he praised V6 Media for their high-quality video productions. 

CEO/General Manager Bruce Todd reported on STRATA’s ongoing commitment to deliver fiber optic internet to the Uintah Basin & beyond, announcing that STRATA currently has over 7,200 fiber-fed locations in the Basin and is working to connect more every day. He also talked about the efforts being made to enhance their wireless/cellular network, to build additional redundancy to their network, and to minimize cybersecurity risks. 

Manager Todd stated that technology is evolving faster than ever, and the Cooperative recognizes that fast reliable connections are quickly becoming the foundations of the future, and are crucial to economic growth, quality healthcare, and educational opportunities here in the Uintah Basin. 

Before the meeting adjourned, it was announced that STRATA’s recent Charity Golf Classic raised $20,000 in proceeds that was donated to the Turning Point Shelter in Vernal.
